D’iomaíodh McCarthy Kent, as Trá Mhór, Co. Phort Láirge, in aghaidh 16 iomaítheora eile Dé hAoine (1 Feabhra) i nÓstán Rochestown i gCorcaigh. Sheinne sí ‘Julia Clifford’s Hornpipe’ agus ‘The First Day of Spring’, ríl a scríobh an t-arbhú Tommy Peoples a fuair bás.
Rebecca McCarthy Kent, a student of the MA in Irish Traditional Music Performance at the University of Limerick, has won the 2018 Seán Ó Riada Bonn Óir (Gold Medal) competition.
McCarthy Kent, from Tramore, Co. Waterford, competed against 16 other finalists on Friday (1 February) at the Rochestown Hotel in Cork. She performed ‘Julia Clifford’s Hornpipe’ and the ‘The First Day of Spring’, a reel written by the late Tommy Peoples.

Unusually this year we have 17 finalists. This is because of the way the marks fell from the 3 adjudicators Paddy Glackin, Maeve Donelly and Connie O Connell. Rather then interfere and force a reduction we decided to take the list. To the majority of you, those who did not make the list, i would say you have my affection and gratitude for competing. It is not a reflection on your overall playing, just the playing of the 5 tracks you uploaded.
